Difference between 4-door and 5-door

What is the difference between a 4-door and a 5-door? This question is easy to answer:

  • A 5-door has four conventional doors as well as a large trunk lid, through which access to the interior of the car is possible.
  • A 4-door however, in addition to the four doors, there is only one trunk lid that only provides access to the trunk.

It is the same with the 2- and 3-door modelsThis means that access to the interior of the car is only possible in the case of the 3-door with the rear seat folded down through the trunk. Examples of the models can be found in this section of this page.

But also among the smaller vehicle types like in the Middle class, in the compact class, in the small car segment and even among the smallest cars there are many five-door car variants. Nowadays, automobile manufacturers rely on 5-door models in almost all vehicle classes. For example, the VW up !, the Opel Corsa, the Mini, the Hyundai i10 and the Seat Leon are available as 5-door models.
