Unconventional tools
In rare cases, you can use unusual tools to clean your whiteboard. These "alternative" agents include, for example, carpet cleaner, washing-up liquid or hairspray. So that the surface is not attacked too much, you can rub a little baby oil on your whiteboard afterwards.
In this case, only special, specially designed cleaners usually help to clean the surface. Alcohol is generally well suitedto wipe your chalkboard. However, the extremely pungent odor is a disadvantage. However, there are also numerous cleaning agents that contain alcohol that have a much weaker odor.

Another means of cleaning - but only for plastic whiteboards - is turpentine. When using turpentine, however, you should be careful to swipe as quickly as possible. Otherwise it can happen that the turpentine attacks the sensitive plastic layer of your whiteboard and under certain circumstances wears it off completely.
Of course, window cleaners, glass cleaners or alcohol can also help you with cleaning. Due to the fat solubility of these tools, you can even use them to remove wax crayons from your whiteboard.

Should a marker have to be removed, you can make do with a simple remedy from the pharmacy - Isopropyl alcohol. Simply apply a small amount of it to a dry cloth and you can remove even the most stubborn marker.

For optimal care and cleaning of your whiteboard, it is best to use specially designed cleaners that explicitly mention that they are suitable for cleaning whiteboards. Magnetic erasers or blackboard wipers are excellent tools to adequately apply your cleaning agent and to remove any marker residues. 2. How to prevent stubborn stains from forming on your whiteboard

To keep a whiteboard as free of stubborn dirt as possible, you should first pay attention to the correct surface of your whiteboard. There are three different materials that are used for this. Enameled steel is more expensive as plastic or painted steel, turns out to be however as much easier to care for. You can find out more about the different types of whiteboards in the following overview:

Plastic (melamine)Plastic is the cheapest of the three types and is mainly used for smaller whiteboards. However, plastic surfaces are usually difficult to wipe off. In addition, there is a slight gray cast with prolonged use. The paint adhesion on these models is, however, quite acceptable. Such whiteboards are a good choice, especially for occasional use.
Painted steelWhiteboards with painted steel are the next better option. You can usually easily remove the colors here without any residue being visible. If you have frequent use of your whiteboard, you may want to invest in a painted steel whiteboard.
Enamelled steelWhiteboards with a surface made of enamelled steel are the most expensive representatives of their kind. The glass-like compound is applied at high temperatures and then hardened. This creates an extremely easy-to-clean, resistant and durable smooth surface. Because of their handsome price, whiteboards made of enameled steel are particularly suitable for professional purposes.

To avoid stubborn stains, we recommend using special whiteboard markers. These only stick slightly to your whiteboard, so that it can then be cleaned without any problems.

A particularly important tip: It is best to clean your whiteboard immediately after it has been used. Because after several days, the residues can usually only be removed with special tools.

3. Use only the cleaning agents intended for cleaning your whiteboard

If you clean your whiteboard with the wrong tools, it will quickly look like this.

In the case of particularly heavy soiling, many people use cleaners that are not suitable for the care of whiteboards and their sensitive surfaces. Especially Abrasive cleaning agents can cause permanent damage to your whiteboard. If the surface has been attacked by abrasives, later use may result in the color penetrating “too deeply” and no longer being able to be removed.

Make sure that you use a cloth or sponge that is as soft as possiblethat won't scratch your whiteboard. Soft cotton cloths or natural sponges are particularly suitable.

To avoid damage to your whiteboard, you should only use cleaning agents that are made with a rubbing alcohol base or that are too specially designed for cleaning whiteboards.

4. This way, your whiteboard can be cleaned without special cleaning agents

Even with alternative tools, you can get your whiteboard that clean.

If you do not have access to special cleaning agents, you may be able to use various cleaning agents. A particularly simple aid are, for example, glasses cleaning cloths. Alternatively, you can put a squirt of perfume on a handkerchief and rub your whiteboard thoroughly with it.
Nail polish remover is also a great option. However, you should not use this too often. After all, it is very aggressive and causes an extremely unpleasant odor.

Also Vinegar works well for cleaning your whiteboard. To do this, simply mix a teaspoon of vinegar with a cup of water. Then fill the result into a spray bottle and use it as a kind of cleaning spray. Now all you need to do is apply the mixture to a cloth and use it to clean your board. You should then wipe your whiteboard with a lint-free cloth or sponge.

Toothpaste is also often recommended as a home remedyto clean a flipchart. This means is particularly suitable for removing permanent markers. Just grab an old toothbrush and some water and scrub your whiteboard thoroughly with it. However, proceed as carefully as possible, as many types of toothpaste also have an abrasive effect.

Another effective household remedy for cleaning your whiteboard is sodium carbonate or baking soda. If you mix baking soda and water together, you can make a kind of cleaning paste. You then apply this to your board with a paper or cloth and clean it until all residues are removed.

Before using any special cleaning or home remedyuse for cleaning, we recommend you try this out on a small corner of your whiteboard. If you use an unsuitable cleaning agent or mixing ratio, you can ensure that your whiteboard does not suffer any major damage.
