User types and user permissions in Marketing Cloud Connect

  • Marketing Cloud Administrator

    The Marketing Cloud administrator sets up and configures a Marketing Cloud account and users. This administrator works with the Salesforce CRM administrator to install and set up Marketing Cloud Connect.

  • Salesforce CRM (Sales or Service Cloud) administrator

    The Sales or Service Cloud administrator sets up and configures a Salesforce CRM account and users. This administrator works with the Marketing Cloud administrator to install and set up Marketing Cloud Connect.

  • Marketing Cloud Connect API users

    The Marketing Cloud Connect API user completes the connection between the Sales or Service Cloud and the Marketing Cloud at the account level. If possible, use a dedicated system user as the Marketing Cloud Connect API user. If the Sales or Service Cloud organization is connected to a Marketing Cloud Enterprise 2.0 account, the Marketing Cloud Connect API user's access to business units in the Marketing Cloud determines which business units can be used in the Sales or Service Cloud .

  • Salesforce system user

    This Sales or Service Cloud user, previously known as the Tracking User, is required to complete the connection between Marketing Cloud and Sales or Service Cloud at the account level. This user is the primary mechanism by which Marketing Cloud tracking data is made available in CRM. It is only used for sending to CRM target groups from the Marketing Cloud in accounts with the configuration "Not area by user". If possible, use a dedicated system user as the Salesforce system user, which consumes a user license.

  • Marketing Cloud Connect administrator

    This person manages the setup of Marketing Cloud Connect in the Sales or Service Cloud.

  • Marketing Cloud Connect user

    This person accesses Marketing Cloud Connect functions in the Sales or Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, or both. Access to the Marketing Cloud Connect functions in the Sales or Service Cloud is managed via CRM permissions and page layouts. Access to Marketing Cloud Connect features in Marketing Cloud is managed through Marketing Cloud Connect permissions. At least one license for the Marketing Cloud and one for the Sales or Service Cloud are required.
