Is brain health important to you

Head & brain

Don't forget: the best nutrients for your brain can be found in organic or original food. You can of course supplement these with additional vitamins and minerals, for example with magnesium and vitamin B.

Food for (reflection) thinking
Magnesium promotes normal psychological function. It supports the brain and nerve functions necessary for the ability to learn. Magnesium is mainly found in spinach, bananas and dark chocolate (72% cocoa content and more). We are also doing our brain a favor with dark, leafy vegetables like kale.

Snack yourself smart
Walnuts and almonds contain a lot of magnesium. If you're feeling hungry, treat yourself to a handful of them every day, unburned and unsalted, because walnuts and almonds are rich in unsaturated (healthy) fats. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats helps maintain normal cholesterol levels. Citrus fruits are also clever snacks because they contain vitamin C, which is particularly helpful during mental exertion.

Warning: peanuts are actually not nuts, but legumes. They contain more unhealthy fats than nuts and are therefore not necessarily recommended as a snack.

Vitamin B complex for the brain
B vitamins such as vitamin B12 are good for concentration, memory, learning skills and the state of mind. The best sources are salmon, beef, and eggs. Algae and seaweed also contain some form of vitamin B12, but this has no effect on humans. Healthy vegetarians therefore always consume a high-quality B12 supplement.

Iron memory
Iron, iodine and zinc take on many tasks in our brain: They contribute to normal memory, concentration, intelligence and solution-oriented thinking ... If you want to consume a little more iron, you should go for spinach and steak more often. Iron also helps against fatigue, for example during long work days or intensive studies.

Kraftmeier for the spirit
Kelp, a type of algae, is a real powerhouse when it comes to iodine: 100 g already contain 2,500% of the recommended daily dose. With just four grams a day, you have already covered your needs. The best source of zinc is also a marine product, the oyster. A single oyster provides ten times the daily requirement. Not a fan of seaweed and oysters? A balanced multivitamin preparation is a good alternative.

Herbal knowledge
Ginkgo biloba has been used to promote an alert mind since time immemorial. Ginkgo causes effective blood flow to the brain and tissues, so that the ability to concentrate and memory improve rapidly. St. John's wort is also recommended. It ensures a balanced mental equilibrium and strengthens the nerves in times of depression. Ginseng is another popular and well-known remedy. It ensures mental vitality and the maintenance of a positive state of mind.

Not to forget: valerian and lemon balm. These plants are rich in relaxing substances that help calm your mind without causing drowsiness. They also contribute to good mental health and an alert mind.

Healthy mind through exercise
Our mind only feels really good in a fit body. Recently, regular exercise was even found to increase IQ. So regularly do something that you enjoy, such as going dancing, swimming or working off your stress in the gym. Feel fit, relaxed and mentally fit. Wonderful!
