The Nuremberg City Library remains open for you!

The city center library and all decentralized libraries have been open again since Thursday, March 11th. Book buses are also running according to plan again and can be entered by one person or one household at a time. It is not necessary to register before your visit.   • The Nuremberg City Library can be used free of charge on site during opening hours. Registration is not required for this.
  • To borrow media or use our digital services, you need a library account and a valid library card - the Bildungscampuscard.
  • You can register online or on site in one of our libraries.
  • The lending of media and the use of the digital offers are associated with a lending fee.
  • Use of the offer is free of charge for children and young people up to the age of 18.

Lending fees for adults

Annual fee: 15 euros valid for twelve months from payment
Quarterly fee: 6 euros valid for three months from payment

Annual fee reduced: 7.50 euros valid for twelve months from payment
(only against appropriate proof for schoolchildren, students, persons who do voluntary military service within the meaning of the Military Service Act, volunteers within the meaning of the Federal Voluntary Service Act and the Youth Voluntary Service Act in the respectively applicable versions and holders of the Nuremberg Pass)


Online registration

Those who do not yet have a library account can register online and receive the access data promptly by email. This allows the extensive digital offerings of the city library to be used.

You can pick up your library card at the next opportunity in the city library center and thus borrow the media on site in the libraries.


Registration on site

Please bring your identity card with you to register. If you do not have this, we need a registration certificate from the residents' registration office in addition to your passport or identity document.

In order to register, children and young people under the age of 16 need a declaration of consent from a parent or legal guardian as well as an original or a copy of their identity card or passport.

The library card is created directly in the library and can be used immediately.


ID extension

Renew your library account up to 2 months before it expires and use our offers seamlessly.
You can use the online payment service to pay your rental fee by SEPA direct debit or credit card.

  • The processing takes place until the next working day. You will not receive a separate message that your ID has been extended.
  • Of course, you can also have your ID extended on site during the opening times of the library.

Loan periods by media type

Books, CDs, media packs, console games and bound magazine volumes

Extension of the loan period

You can extend the loan period for your media as long as no other users have reserved it.

Return of borrowed media

Please ensure that the borrowed media are returned in good time. The due date can be found on the loan receipt and in the library account.
Please return the media to the library from which you borrowed it.

24-hour return in the city library center:
The return machine in the entrance area is available around the clock.
Access is possible outside of opening times with a library card.

Return machine in the S├╝dstadt City Library:
Access from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. - also on weekends.


Fees if the loan period is exceeded

Fees are calculated from the first calendar day after the due date per borrowed medium and commenced week of default:

  • The fee is due even if you have not received a written reminder.
  • A processing fee of 5 euros must be paid for a second written reminder from the city library.
  • If you have lost or damaged any media, please notify the staff at your library immediately.

Reservations and reservations

  • Borrowed media can be reserved via the catalog for a fee of 1.50 euros.
  • Available media can also be reserved by telephone in the respective library for a fee of 1.50 euros.

Order of magazine stocks

Media available from the magazine of the Zentrum Stadtbibliothek can be ordered free of charge in the online catalog (OPAC) - location "Zentrum-Magazin" - and are usually available for pick-up for 14 days from 3 p.m. on the following opening day.

This also applies to orders via the digital card catalogs of the old holdings, in which magazine holdings are shown that have not yet been recorded in the library catalog.


Interlibrary loan orders

Literature for training and further education that is not available in one of the Nuremberg libraries can be ordered via interlibrary loan.
