He is also known as his alternate personality - Earl Dibbles Jr. He has been active in the music scene for over 30 years, with nine studio albums, one live album and one EP released in the past two decades. Born Granger Kelly Smith on September 4, 1979 in Dallas, Texas, the country singer was raised in Dallas and raised with his brothers Parker and Tyler. He attended Lake Highlands High School in Dallas and when he was only 14 he became interested in music. He learned how to play guitar by himself. And although he did this initially to get the attention of the female school population, it turned out to be his future passion.

In Nashville, Smith learned to write and record music while performing in clubs and bars. He also played guitar as a substitute for some local artists. After living in Nashville for about five years, he decided to return to Texas.

By 2006 he had released three more albums. He published Memory Rd. in 2004, Bags of pesos in 2005 and Livin ’Like a Lonestar the following year. Each of his albums were successful and they sold better than the previous one. He continued to grow and become famous. It gave its first performance in the White House in 2008 during the presidency of George W. Bush. He also traveled to the Middle East to perform for US forces stationed in Iraq and Kuwait.

The next year he released his fifth studio album, entitled Don't listen to the radio and in 2011 he released his sixth album, Contributions & prisoners. However, it was his seventh studio album that took the world by storm, the album he titled Driveway, fell in 2013 and ranked 15th on the Billboard US Country Chart. The album also ranked eleventh on the US indie chart.

In 2015, Smith announced that he had signed a record label deal with Broken Bow Records. The following year he dropped his eighth studio album and his most successful of his albums, entitled Remington. The album was at the top of the US top country albums when it debuted on the chart. In 2017 he dropped his ninth album, When the good guys win.
