What is the best Razer laptop for 1200
The best gaming laptop
If you have serious gaming as a hobby, you still play on a stationary PC. But if you don't want to miss out on your favorite titles on the go, you can hardly avoid an extra gaming laptop. Especially as far as the graphics are concerned, normal laptops are not able to play the latest games smoothly and smoothly in the highest resolution. The manufacturers know this and have expanded their range accordingly. There are now a corresponding number of gaming laptops on the market.
We looked at current models. At the prices, one or the other will take their breath away - you have to put between a good 2,000 and more than 3,000 euros on the table for a good gaming notebook. But it's worth it for real gaming fans.
Brief overview: Our recommendations
Gigabyte Aero 15 XB
The Gigabyte Aero 15 XB has a fast processor and therefore offers excellent performance not only in everyday life, but also when gaming. Games run very well in conjunction with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, and the improved screen also offers a clearer picture. This means that current games look great with high graphics settings and the Aero 15 XB is also prepared for future technologies such as ray tracing and DLSS.
With the 94-watt-hour lithium-ion battery, the Gigabyte gaming notebook is also suitable for on the go, with the weight of the comparatively light 2.1 kilograms and the thickness of only 2 centimeters also contributing to this. Unfortunately, the fans get very loud while gaming, which could make noise-sensitive gamers in particular shy away from our recommendation. Nevertheless, our favorite offers a slim and stylish design, countless connections and impeccable gaming and battery performance.
Good as well
Lenovo Legion Y740
The Lenovo Legion Y740 is a relatively slim, but still quite large gaming notebook. The screen is not exactly small at 17 inches, which of course also increases the footprint of the laptop itself. In return, the case offers plenty of space for the latest hardware and masters top games effortlessly.
In contrast to many other models, the fans here also work comparatively quietly. As a result, there is no background noise of a machine room, which is much more pleasant when gaming. The fast SSD and a second, large hard drive also provide a lot of storage space. If you want, you can easily replace the HDD with an even larger model.
Good & cheap
HP Pavilion Gaming 15
You can still gamble properly for a little less money. The HP Gaming Pavilion 15 smoothly displays most of the latest games in Full HD and with high graphics quality. The hardware is also sufficient for future titles, but the details may then have to be scaled down a bit.
In terms of design, HP sets its own accents that set the Pavilion 15 apart from other gaming notebooks. In addition to key lighting and the option of adding a second hard drive, the screen can also convince with good colors. All in all, the HP Gaming Pavilion 15 is a successful and, above all, affordable gaming notebook.
When money doesn't matter
Gigabyte Aorus 17 YA
The Aorus 17 YA from Gigabyte offers everything that ambitious gamers need. A large screen, powerful hardware and a cooling system that can cope with all the power. The intelligent fan control is supposed to prevent too high a background noise, but when the Aorus turns up properly it is still very loud.
In addition to the gaming hardware, a very good mechanical keyboard and a decent touchpad are also offered here. Before you buy, however, you should consider the high weight, which easily exceeds five kilograms for the notebook plus two power supplies. The Aorus 17 YA is therefore much too heavy to have with you every day.
Small and mobile
Asus Zephyrus G14
If you are on the go a lot and still don't want to miss out on gaming, the Asus Zephyrus G14 is in good hands. The graphics performance is not quite as good as that of the big competitors, but it is sufficient for casual gaming in Full HD resolution. The working memory is also a bit tight at eight gigabytes, but it can be expanded if necessary.
The AMD processor, on the other hand, is really fast and can easily hold its own against comparable Intel CPUs. Despite the gaming performance, the battery life does not fall by the wayside, and Asus has also thought of a 120 Hz display with strong colors. The compact design makes the Zephyrus G14 unique, but you also have to live with the slightly unbalanced price-performance ratio.

For a long time now, gaming on the PC has not only been possible with thick desktop computers. Those who are willing to invest accordingly now have a decent selection of gaming-grade notebooks to choose from. The choice of the right components plays an even bigger role than is the case with the classic PC tower.
Upgrading notebooks is hardly possible
Because where important elements such as graphics cards or mainboards can be exchanged on the desktop if necessary, it looks rather poor with notebooks when it comes to upgrading. But it doesn't matter - the current generation of gaming notebooks offers enough power reserves to play games smoothly in the years to come.
Gaming laptops free top games from their desk cuffs. If you want to play in the garden or, of course, at LAN parties or even e-sports tournaments, you will find the perfect solution here.
The most important questions
Which gaming laptop is right for me?
If you want to stay mobile with your laptop, choose a laptop with a screen size of no more than 15.6 inches. The lightest possible weight and long battery life are important here. If you use the laptop as a replacement for a desktop PC on the desk, heavier and larger models with up to 17.3 inches are no obstacle. In this case, disadvantages such as heat generation and a small battery are easy to cope with.
How expensive is a gaming laptop?
Good gaming laptops usually cost between 1,500 and 2,500 euros. Inexpensive or older laptops with a little less performance are also available from 1,000 euros. In the high-end area, you can quickly get to 3,000 euros, although the price limit is open to the top.
Does a Gaming Laptop Make Sense?
Gaming laptops are more expensive in terms of value for money than a desktop PC for gaming. However, they are also more mobile, take up much less space, are quickly stowed away and are significantly more energy-efficient. They are also suitable as powerful work packages for on the go, for example when it comes to video editing or other computationally intensive work.
Which graphics card does a laptop need for gaming?
In the notebook sector, the mobile versions of the RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 (now mostly with the addition of "Max-Q") are the state of the art. Those who can do without technologies such as ray tracing and DLSS still have enough power with the cheaper models of the Geforce GTX-16 series to display many current games in FullHD resolution without juddering.
Graphics performance: new technologies for the next step
Above all, the combination of processor and built-in graphics card plays a decisive role in the gaming sector. Intel and Nvidia are the top dogs here, although AMD is slowly fighting its way up again. Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs of the Coffee Lake generation, however, form a solid basis in most devices for bringing top titles to the screen at a decent speed.
The graphics card is still more decisive for the "gaming currency" frames per second or "FPS" (frames per second). If you want to get the maximum out of here, you cannot avoid the current generation of graphics cards from Nvidia. The cards of the Geforce RTX 20 series based on the so-called Turing architecture are currently almost unrivaled not only on the desktop, but also in notebooks.
In the notebook sector, the mobile versions of the RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 Max-Q are the state of the art. But the cheaper predecessor models of the Geforce GTX-10 series currently still offer enough power to display many current games in FullHD resolution without jerking. The RTX graphics cards offer a bit more performance in direct comparison. But this is where things get particularly interesting, especially with regard to the upcoming technologies, such as ray tracing and DLSS.
Ray tracing and DLSS determine the future
While pure 3D graphics have been stagnating for a few years, the developers are trying to make their games more realistic, primarily through light and shadow effects and reflections. Ray tracing will play an important role here in the future, because this technology enables the light distribution in an image and the path of light rays to be calculated much more realistically.
Another big leap is made by DLSS. Above all, this technology improves the anti-aliasing, which enables a significantly better display on large screens with high resolutions. However, this does not yet play a major role on notebooks with FullHD screens, as a significant improvement is only noticeable with UHD and 4K content. However, if you would like to connect your gaming notebook to a large 4K screen, you should keep DLSS in mind.
In 2020, the RTX 2070 Max-Q will offer more than enough performance for gaming in Full HD resolution, even for current and upcoming titles. However, if you are looking for the ultimate in mobile graphics performance, you have to resort to a notebook with the mobile top model RTX 2080. However, appropriately equipped gaming laptops have already cracked the 3,000 euro mark.
By the way: If you are interested in the technology, you will get enough graphics performance for gaming with VR glasses with a current Turing notebook. Both our favorite and the alternatives offer enough resources to immerse yourself in virtual worlds via HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.
VR is already possible with some models
In general, it is not only games that benefit from the enormous performance. Incidentally, top notebooks like our favorite also handle demanding applications, such as video editing, with flying colors. If you buy a sophisticated gaming notebook, you also get a mobile workstation or even a full-fledged desktop replacement.
Mobile gamers can also look forward to another development: Thanks to a new design called »Max-Q« from Nvidia, their high-end graphics cards can be installed in narrow housings with a thickness of just 1.8 centimeters - this was unthinkable in the past due to the development of heat . Those who travel a lot no longer have to lug around heavy gaming laptops.
Our favorite: Gigabyte Aero 15 XB
For us, the best gaming laptop is the Gigabyte Aero 15 XB, which convinced us with high-performance equipment such as the Intel i7-10875H and the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q. The manufacturer calls for a high price of around 2,200 euros for this. But that is justified when you consider the reliable performance, the good workmanship and the lavish features. Despite the high price, it offers a great price-performance ratio.
