Integrated building planning saves time and money
BIM is the big digital topic in the construction industry. With this method, buildings are to be planned, built and operated more efficiently and in a way that conserves resources. Mr. Weizenhöfer, from your point of view - what are the advantages of Building Information Modeling (BIM)?
Unfortunately, BIM is sometimes still used as a synonym for 3D CAD software, which can be used to make building models tangible and accessible during the planning phase. But BIM is not software, but a method. And the aim is to work together as partners on the digital building model. BIM facilitates data exchange and enables early collision checks between the work packages. This also means, for example, that you will notice sooner when components do not match. For example, when a wall is fire-retardant - but the door that is supposed to be built into it is not.
When does building planning start with BIM?
If you work with the BIM method, you define certain procedures and processes in the early phase of the project. These are usually defined via the client information request (AIA) and a BIM processing plan (BAP). In many cases, however, the BIM processing plan is only coordinated after the architect and those involved in the planning have been commissioned. Often there is still a need for discussion.
How can GEZE provide support in the BIM process?

Save time and money with BIM?
Yes, because BIM works with digitized objects from components. In addition to a graphic presentation, these also contain the required information such as description, structural and structural properties. For example, a virtual door can be “given” information that it is fire-retardant or burglar-resistant, what material it is made of, whether it has a locking system or a drive. And with this information you can do a lot: create door lists, design room books or generate texts for tenders up to the execution of simulations, for example of escape scenarios. All information can be extracted very quickly from the central building model.
Architecture, different uses of the building, flows of people, security, fire protection and escape route concepts make the door trade a very complex planning task - can objects depict that?
To create a BIM model, architects and specialist planners can actually use the generic components of the common CAD software systems. In many countries, tenders for public construction projects must also be made neutrally. The use of generic objects from the CAD systems fulfills this neutrality requirement. The disadvantage is that they often do not offer all the necessary equipment features and variants.
Door planning with BIM is all about getting the right information in the right phase!
Help comes from our configurable GEZE BIM objects. These are door objects with all the necessary components, but still unspecified attributes. A door needs around 150 pieces of information in order to plan it correctly. A lot of information comes together that has to be sorted if you don't want to make mistakes. The difficulty for the planner lies in not assigning too much information to the objects at an early stage. Because they can cause problems in a later planning phase or when changes are made.
