Perspectives on Feminist Action in Art, Design and Technology

Symposium on International Women * Struggle Day

08.03.2021 13: 00–17: 00h

With feminist perspectives we want to analyze, reflect and make visible unequal gender relations and body politics in art, design and technology. We are still often not aware of these because they determine our viewing habits, are inscribed in technologies that we use every day and are structurally part of the spaces through which we move. How can we as artists and designers intervene in sexist structures? Which feminist practices do they make visible and negotiable?

On the occasion of the International Women's * Struggle Day on March 8, 2021, the Women's * Advisory Board of the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin invites you to a mini symposium. Renata Kutinka (art scholar) examines representations of the vulva in the context of queer_feminist body politics. Marie Dietze (designer) discusses feminist perspectives in free technologies and the potential of open source in design. The FEM_ARC collective (architects) presents their work, in which they question the relationships between different bodies and the built environment. Interfaces are emerging in the areas of space, body and feminist action in and about art and design, which we want to deepen with you.

The event will take place online and in German. Registration via: [email protected]

Perspectives of Feminist Practices in Art, Design and Technology

Employing feminist perspectives, we aim to investigate gendered power structures and body politics in art, design and technology. These power dynamics are inscribed into our gaze, into the technologies we use and into the spaces through which we move - thus they often remain imperceivable to us. How can we as artists and designers intervene in these sexist power structures? Which feminist practices render them visible and open them up for transformation?

On the occasion of the International Women * s Day on March 8, 2021, the Women * s Advisory Board of weißensee kunsthochschule berlin invites you to a mini-symposium. Renata Kutinka (art history scholar) explores representations of the vulva to develop a queer_feminist perspective on body politics. Marie Dietze (designer) discusses the potentials of free technologies and open source from a feminist point of view. FEM_ARC collective (architects) will give insights into their artistic and activist work, in which they question, for example, the relationships of different bodies to the built environment. Connecting the contributions we find overarching themes of space, body and feminist practices within art and design, that we hope to further discuss with you.

The event will take place online and mostly in German. Registration: [email protected]
