Industry 4.0 as a corporate design task

The book brings together the diverse research efforts in the field of Industry 4.0 and explicitly places the topic, which has so far been very much discussed from a technical perspective, in the business context. It shows the business, technical and legal challenges and opportunities associated with Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 not only connects virtual things - as it has been used to from the world of the Internet up to now - but also real things with virtual things and these with people in the spirit of the “Internet of Things”. With this transition to a digitally networked overall system, an attempt is made to achieve an even closer coordination of business and technical information processing (not only) in the manufacturing sector, based above all on real real-time data. However, important questions have so far remained unanswered: which Industry 4.0 technologies can play the role of basic technologies for horizontal and vertical networking in real time in the near future, how the related interface problems can be solved or how the networking of man and machine should take place. The area of product innovation and business model development as well as the smart data solutions behind them are still in their infancy, and a number of legal questions are still unanswered. The book answers the first questions, but also provides food for thought for aspects of this exciting research area that still need to be clarified. The 2nd edition has been reviewed and corrected.
