Hyundai i30 N Performance
The Hyundai i30 N Performance, which starts in the basic version at a new price of around 34,300 euros, offers - the name says it all - a high-performance driving experience at top conditions. The lowered body, the newly designed radiator grille with the N logo and the look of the rear end make it a compact sports car. The front-wheel drive 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo offers 275 hp, which thanks to the six-speed manual transmission and sports exhaust system with flap control are a lot of fun. The Korean needs 6.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h.
Honda Civic Type R.
The motorized Honda Civic Type R is even more brutal. It brings it to 320 hp and a torque of 400 Nm. The sportier brother of the popular Honda Civic is available from around 38,000 euros. We drove the spectacular Japanese together with the Hyundai i30 N Performance for two weeks. Find out which of the two compact athletes won the comparison in the end!
No Japanese-made coupé has been as sporty as the Subaru BRZ for a long time: the BZR is characterized by its flat, elegant design as well as its thrust in all speed ranges. The abbreviation “BRZ” stands for Boxer, Rear-Wheel-Drive and Zenith: A powerful boxer engine, as it is also used in other Subaru models, generates a decent 200 hp thanks to a combination of direct and manifold injection. The rear-wheel drive, which is rather untypical for Subaru, and the responsive steering whet the appetite for speed. Like its sister model, the Toyota GT86, the Subaru BRZ has been on the market since 2012. The starting price for a model with basic equipment is around 35,000 euros.
Now in its sixth generation, the VW Polo has been delivering around 200 hp as a GTI with its two-liter turbo since 2018. The model, which accelerates from zero to one hundred in 6.7 seconds, has a new price of around 25,500 euros. The Polo GTI is not only sporty in terms of its performance, but also in terms of its appearance: the striking honeycomb ventilation grille and the color-coordinated trim strips, brake calipers and sports rims stand out. And the interior with sports seats, color-accented cockpit and rapid lines make you want to go for speed.
The eighth generation of the sporty compact car model presented in 2017 of the Ford Fiesta ST has up to 200 hp. Efficiency and driving fun are combined here in a compact and therefore city-friendly way. The ST is the first sports model from Ford to feature a three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Thanks to the combination of direct injection and additional manifold injection, the ST delivers maximum performance with optimum efficiency even at low engine speeds. The standard equipment includes a sports chassis with light alloy wheels and an interior design with sports seats from Recaro. The Fiesta ST is available from around 21,500 euros.
As an entry-level model, the Mercedes AMG A 35 is the only AMG that is available in the basic version for less than 50,000 euros. With 306 hp, it bridges the gap between the A 250 with 224 hp and the top A-Class model, the new A 45 with at least 400 hp. With its two-liter four-cylinder engine, the A 35 goes from zero to one hundred in 4.7 seconds - which makes it inferior to the old A 45 with 381 hp by just 0.5 seconds. The A 35 is also an unmistakable representative of the AMG range in terms of looks: the radiator grille, the front apron with flics on the air inlets, a front splitter and chrome-plated trim are typical.
The Audi S1 with two-liter turbo not only has solid all-wheel drive, but also an impressive 231 hp. The base price for the sportiest model in the A1 series is around 30,000 euros. Compared to the A1, the grille of the S1 is wider, but flatter. The front and rear bumpers, headlights and taillights have also been changed slightly and underline the sporty look. The maximum torque is 370 Nm at 1,600 to 3,000 revolutions. This means that the turbocharger can go from zero to one hundred in 5.8 seconds (in the slightly heavier Sportback variant, it is only 0.1 seconds more). By the way: The Audi S1 is currently the fastest small car.
Seat Leon Cupra
With the Seat Leon Cupra 300, the name says it all: Cupra stands for "Cup Racing", a claim that you can definitely come close to with 300 hp. A four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive bring the Spaniard to 100 km / h in under five seconds, making it one of the most exciting station wagons that the compact segment currently has to offer. As the seat with the most horsepower, the Cupra 300 is also a little faster in terms of design: Among other things, the Cupra is set apart from the Basic Leon by colored rim accents and a more conspicuous front apron with enlarged air inlets. The price for the fast Spaniard is around 35,000 euros.
Elegant sports coupé: the Peugeot RCZ convinces as a 4-cylinder with almost 200 hp for around 30,000 euros. The new, albeit more expensive, Peugeot RCZ R, on the other hand, has up to 270 hp - making it the most powerful model that Peugeot has ever produced in series. A double curvature in the roof and rear window should not only serve to improve the aerodynamics. They are also a unique visual feature, although a certain similarity between the RCZ and the Audi TT cannot be denied. Thanks to a torque of 330 Nm, the 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder sprints from zero to one hundred in 5.9 seconds.
Convincingly sporty, but also cheap: the Nissan 370Z with a full 328 hp for around 33,000 euros. The Nissan Z-series has consistently produced notable sports coupés for four decades. The 370Z succeeds the 240Z and impresses with the perfect symbiosis of design and performance. The built-in VQ-V6 engine with a displacement of 3.7 liters gives the 370Z a boost and accelerates the two-seater to 100 km / h in barely more than five seconds. Fast response coupled with a short wheelbase, wide track and low center of gravity ensure maximum road feeling for driving pleasure.
For those who need more than 400 hp, the US powerhouse Chevrolet Camaro for around 45,000 euros could be an interesting option: the V8 engine has a total of 453 hp! The equipment includes an eight-speed gearshift and a weight reduction of 90 kg as well as a more aerodynamic design compared to the previous model. The opening of the radiator grille has been widened, the rear spoiler reduces air resistance and the roof design has also been optimized for the benefit of maximum performance.
Ford Mustang GT
The Ford Mustang GT traditionally stands for top performance at relatively affordable prices. The current model is almost unbeatable with a price of around 42,000 euros for 421 hp. In the coupé version, the Ford Mustang, which is currently on the market in 2 versions with a 4-liter engine, has 213 hp (as Mustang V6) and 305 hp as Mustang GT. The Mustang VI 5.0 TI-VCT with a 5-liter engine generates a whopping 450 hp, the top model, the Mustang VI Shelby GT350 with a 5.2-liter engine, even produces 533 hp.
Consumption and other costs
It's not just the purchase price of a fast car with a lot of horsepower that plays a role - you should also consider the cost of fuel, insurance, inspections, etc. Hidden costs can lurk here - even if you bought the car cheaply.
In addition to a careful price comparison of new and used cars, you should therefore check in advance how much fuel the model you prefer consumes on average and how high the costs for insurance and vehicle tax are.
These factors determine the ongoing costs incurred by car owners:
The number one cost factor is of course the purchase price. A used car usually costs less than a new one. A direct comparison of several offers is not only worthwhile with regard to the pure acquisition costs, but also with regard to certain equipment features. If you have already decided on a certain car model, a specific price comparison gives you the opportunity to calmly explore the market before buying and, at the end of the day, to choose the most convincing offer.
Regardless of whether a car is driven regularly or is mainly in the garage: As a vehicle owner, you have certain monthly or annual fixed costs. This includes, for example, vehicle tax, liability insurance and any other insurance benefits, such as fully comprehensive or passenger accident insurance.
The amount of operating costs incurred by a car depends primarily on how often it is used. In addition to the fuel or natural gas or electricity costs to drive the vehicle, there are costs for engine oil as well as regular maintenance and care of the vehicle.
All new cars experience a permanent loss of value. The value of a used car also decreases with every year that has passed since it was first registered - unless it is a coveted rarity of an older year of construction. According to a Focus study, a car loses 24.2 percent of its value in the first year after the new registration is driven 15,000 kilometers per year. According to this, the depreciation of a vehicle is five to six percent annually regardless of its class.
Buy fast cars cheaply
Are you looking for a car with a lot of horsepower that is still relatively cheap to buy and maintain? Then heycar is the address for you. The right sports car for you is sure to be among the 300,000 used cars. By the way: No vehicle on our list is more than 8 years old or driven more than 150,000 km. And because they are so young and in good shape, cars from dealers, manufacturers or insurers also come with a guarantee. Not a bad deal, is it? So go ahead - take a look at the offer!
