The alarm clock often throws a spanner in the works and we have to be ready for everyday life. However, if you press the snooze button for a full eight hours, you can do so without any problems anyway. If we get enough sleep, our body can be optimally regenerated overnight and there are no difficulties getting up in the morning. We have already told you what happens when we sleep too little. The question that occurred to us now is what happens to our body when we sleep too much. If we feel as fit as a gym shoe after an eight-hour break, then we should feel even better after additional hours of recovery, right? We got to the bottom of it and tell you what is really happening.
1. You still feel tired
If you get more sleep, you also have to be much fitter? It would be nice! The longer we sleep, the more our sleep-wake cycle is disturbed. The stress hormone cortisol, which rises from five in the morning, unconsciously keeps us awake. In addition, our body temperature rises after the eight hour sleep limit and our sleeping comfort only deteriorates from then on. When we get up, we don't really have the feeling of being well rested, even though we've been in bed for a longer period of time, but rather feel tired and still tired.
2. back pain
If you lie in your springs for too long, you can get back pain. The pain can come into effect through too little activity. The longer we lie in bed, the less we move. If we then sleep in a cramped position or on an unsuitable mattress, the back pain can worsen. In such a situation, you should quickly change your sleeping pad or use an ergonomic sleeping position. In the worst case, an appointment with the doctor should be made.
3. You gain weight
According to a study from Canada, there is also a link between too much sleep and weight gain. The sleep of 276 people between the ages of 21 and 64 was analyzed for six years. As a result: participants who slept more than nine hours gained up to five kilos more than the "normal sleepers". The likelihood that late risers are more likely to gain weight is higher. This can also be related to the fact that people who sleep more have a higher chance of developing diabetes and thus being overweight.
4. Impaired fertility
A Korean photographic team observed the sleep schedule of over 650 women and linked it to their fertility. The study shows that ladies who slept seven to eight hours had the highest likelihood of conceiving at 53 percent than women who slept nine to eleven hours. With them, the chance was only about 43 percent. The reason for this can be the imbalance of hormones and the female cycle caused by sleeping too long.
5. Risk of stroke is higher
Another study from the University of Cambridge shows that late risers are at higher risk of stroke. The sleep of 97,000 Europeans was analyzed for eleven years and the result showed that people who slept more than eight hours had a higher probability of having a seizure with a full 46 percent. Participants whose sleep cycle extended over the course of the eleven-year study had a four times higher chance of suffering a stroke.
