“The Pentax Optio RS1000 is aimed at camera beginners who place great value on design. The idea with the interchangeable covers is smart. However, you have to accept compromises in terms of image quality - especially due to the strong image noise. However, if you are looking for an eye-catcher for little money, you can grab it. "

    Price / performance: "cheap"

“The Pentax Optio RS1000 is aimed at camera beginners who value design above all else. The idea with the interchangeable covers is smart. However, the image quality of the RS1000 falls by the wayside - especially when it comes to the very strong image noise. RS1000 option

Chameleon with changeable front parts

The manufacturer Pentax has given the new compact camera from the Optio RS1000 series the nickname Chameleon. Because if desired, the user can change the front parts of the camera as often as he likes and design them himself. In terms of equipment, the 92 x 56 x 20.5 millimeter device also has a lot to offer. The model scores with a powerful wide-angle zoom lens with an initial focal length of 28 millimeters in KB format and takes 14.1 megapixel photos and high-resolution video clips.

To change the appearance of the Pentax Optio RS1000, the photographer only has to loosen the transparent front panel of the camera made of Plexiglas with four screws, insert a new skin and screw the panel back on. In the run-up to Photokina 2010, Pentax launched a website specifically for the camera (www.chameleon.pentax.eu). Photographers who are keen to experiment can download various covers from the Internet portal with a click of the mouse or develop their own creative skins for the front of the cameras.

With the unique design concept of the Optio RS1000, Pentax is aimed at young, lifestyle-oriented users who appreciate a combination of fine mechanics and an appealing exterior. The launch of the camera chameleon is planned for October 2010. The manufacturer charges around 160 euros for the model, which weighs around 113 grams.
