The best facecam cameras for Let's Plays

You want to record Let's Plays for YouTube but don't have a good camera? Or have you been with us for a while and now finally want to upgrade your videos with a facecam?

Here I present you the best and cheapest Facecam cameras for your Let's Plays.

Cheap facecam cameras: webcams

The cheapest option are simple webcams. In my general article on Let's Play Tips, I have already presented two models. Here are the 3 best webcams again in detail:

1. My tip: Logitech C920 HD Pro

The Logitech C920 HD Pro is a very popular and extensively equipped webcam with a very good price-performance ratio. Some big Let's Players use this webcam for their YouTube videos, e.g. Rewinside, Dner (until recently) or Unge and Paluten.

Integrated table stand

Above all, the good picture of the Logitech C920 HD Pro and the sharp resolution are praised. With the integrated folding tripod, you can either attach the camera to a monitor or place it directly on the table.

HERE you can buy the Logitech C920 HD Pro (approx. 50 €)

2. HP HD 4310

The HP HD 4310 is another full HD webcam with good equipment. Although the image quality does not quite come close to that of the Logitech C920, it is still a very good webcam.

3. Entry-level webcam: Logitech C270 HD

The entry-level model Logitech C270 HD is much cheaper. However, you shouldn't expect really good quality at this price. I would only recommend this webcam if you don't have an alternative (integrated laptop webcam).

Logitech RightLight technology

Mediocre image quality

As I said, this webcam is more of a replacement for an internal laptop webcam.

HERE you can buy the Logitech C270 HD (approx. 25 €)

Professional facecam cameras

Many YouTube Let's players have now switched to real DSLRs or system cameras. For example, ConCrafter uses a Canon Eos 80D, Dner a Panasonic GH4 and the Briton jacksepticeye and the American Markiplier even use a Sony Alpha 7 II.

In my article "The best cameras for vlogging" I took a closer look at some models. Here again the 3 best facecam cameras of the professional class:

1. Sony Alpha 6500

The Sony Alpha 6500 is one of the best system cameras on the market. Many YouTubers use this camera for their vlogs and videos. So if you want to do more than just Let's Plays, I can warmly recommend this camera to you.

4K video (suitable for subsequent enlargement)

No swiveling display

The previous model, the Sony Alpha 6300, is also interesting. The image quality and features are almost identical, but you can save a lot on the price.

2. Panasonic Lumix GX8

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 is a somewhat cheaper, yet very high-quality camera. Here you get top features at a relatively low price.

HERE you can buy the Panasonic Lumix GX8 (approx. 750 €)

3. Canon 700D

The Canon 700D is a bit older, but still has excellent image quality and its 1080p FullHD resolution is definitely enough for your facecam. Another advantage is that you can easily connect the Canon cameras to OBS. All you need is the free Canon EOS Utility software.

Easy to connect with OBS

Very good value for money

HERE you can buy the Canon 700D (approx. 400 €)

If you want to use one of these DSLR or system cameras for your facecam, there is something else Important to note. To connect the cameras to OBS Studio, you need one (except for Canon) additional software (Digicam or Sparkocam) and in some cases even an extra converter (connected to the camera with HDMI).

So if you're just starting out with your Let's Play channel, I can recommend one of the cheaper webcams from above. They are simply plugged in and you can start playing right away!
