Are herbal cigarettes smoke-free
Get out of the corona risk group - finally quit smoking
Smokers belong to the corona risk group. Studies show: With previous tobacco-related illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and cancer, the risk of a severe course of the disease Covid-19 is increased, explains Ute Mons from the Cancer Prevention Unit at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. Reason enough to think about quitting smoking. Our editor tried it herself practically.
After more than 40 years as a smoker and most recently two months of constant cough, the time has come. The seminar takes place tomorrow. I'm afraid. Do I really want to change my life?
Smoking is one of the worst things you can do to your body. And it's expensive. After three or four unsuccessful withdrawal attempts, it should work with professional help. Jochen Kaufmann from Leingarten is a naturopath for psychotherapy and a certified hypnotist. It advertises a 95 percent success rate in smoking cessation. Participation costs 199 euros, with statutory health insurance companies covering part of the costs.
Day 1, vorm.
I secretly smoke two cigarettes on the terrace this November morning. I am ashamed, but only a little. Finally, I can, it says in the advance information. So that the pressure doesn't get too great. It starts at 9 o'clock. Two men are standing in front of the building in Heilbronner Austraße, each pulling on his cigarette. I control myself with difficulty. The atmosphere inside is relaxed. Jochen Kaufmann tells facts about cigarettes and why smokers use the cigarette at sub-zero temperatures Sitting on the balcony and why we believe that smoking is relaxing. It has nothing to do with esotericism, more to do with science. And hey, it's bitterly cold on the balcony in winter. And yes, then smoking is no fun.
Kaufmann, who says he has been a happy non-smoker for 14 years, takes a holistic approach to smoking cessation. "The concept is suitable for every smoker. We address the mind, body and emotions", he explains to the Heilbronner Voice - it is very important how this happens: "There are many subtleties that have to be taken into account. We bring people there from where he is. "
The mind wants to understand: on this day it learns a lot that it has always known but never wanted to admit, for example about the tricks of the tobacco industry and what is really in the cigarette - from the rat poison arsenic to hydrogen cyanide and cadmium to polonium 210. And new facts: for example, that nicotine blocks the acetylcholine receptors. The body's own messenger substance would provide relaxation if the nicotine left it - "You smoke to feel as relaxed as any non-smoker simply does," explains Kaufmann. If you look through this, there is often a click in the head - and cigarettes are completely superfluous from now on.
Diet also plays an important role: B vitamins in particular strengthen the nerves during withdrawal. In addition, according to Kaufmann, acupuncture can reduce addiction. Together with hypnosis, the dreaded weight gain can be avoided.
Day 1, afternoon
Finally, after lunch, some group dynamics. Together we insult the glowing sticks for what they are to us now - rat poison, carcinogen or, for men, "semi-hardworkers". Then we throw them away with a grand gesture. There are globules as a smoke-free aid. And we get a lifeline: tablets for calming down and herbal cigarettes without nicotine for an absolute emergency. "Coffee is not an emergency," says Kaufmann. The highlight: hypnosis. I am in full control at all times. Back at home I feel happy, downright euphoric, exuberantly happy. In the evening I get on everyone's nerves. Did i take anything?
Like acetylcholine, the amygdala is part of the limbic system that controls emotions and always demands satisfaction and reward. Kaufmann explains what links exist in our brain between cigarettes and certain situations or values - and how they can be deleted and overwritten. There is no blame, no negative feelings about parting with the cigarette. The psyche has great flexibility, says Kaufmann. The aim is to be able to say of yourself: "From now on I am a happy non-smoker, I no longer need those completely superfluous cigarettes. My life is good, I feel good, I am fine, I am happy, downright euphoric." This message arrives in the subconscious. The trust that has grown over the course of the day plays a major role in the success: "We purposefully delete smoking from your emotional area. Once this has happened, you will not need any substitute for smoking."
I still feel turned up. I am awake early in the morning, full of power, could uproot trees. Don't do nothing: I avoid situations that my brain associates with a cigarette. That degenerates into actionism. I feel sorry for my fellow men.
A week of non-smokers, the euphoria subsides. In the evening I listen to my personal hypnosis audio file through headphones, and I sleep well. The motivation for the day in bed in the morning: You can do it, you want it, you can do it, you feel good. Kind of like brainwashing. My activism will be exhausting - for everyone who has to endure me.
Aftercare plays a major role in Jochen Kaufmann's concept: "With every hypnosis there are new positive connections in the brain. The more you hear this, the more it is imprinted on the psyche." Each participant therefore receives individual audio files, which, according to Kaufmann, are underlaid with deliberately inaudible, personal sub-texts. The files are tailored to the changing situation: from withdrawal to happy non-smokers. It is strongly recommended that you best listen to them in bed in the evening for three months. "The effect is simply more permanent," says Kaufmann.
Denial is pointless, I'm restless, irritable, impatient. Should I take the emergency pill? Instead, I feed myself nuts. Every morning I get a cocktail of B and D vitamins, omega3 fatty acids and an egg for breakfast. The acid test: pass the checkout in the supermarket and don't buy cigarettes. Alcohol is actually taboo now, but I still have a glass of wine in the evening. You don't treat yourself to anything else.
Diet is important in this phase to strengthen the nerves, explains Kaufmann. And nuts are always better than chocolate. Therefore, each participant receives a list in advance of the groceries that they should have in stock.
I can do it, I want it, I can do it. In the morning, instead of breakfast TV, a Youtube motivational video by Kaufmann is shown on TV.
The small amygdala really does trumps: This time, because the internet connection is not working and the router has to be restarted. I'm tempted to throw him on the wall. Then I become aware of what my subconscious has long since stored: three deep breaths calm the nerves as well as a cigarette.
My self-confidence increases: I can do it, I want it, I can do it. Outing non-smokers among colleagues is encouraging. Everyone encourages me, many have already done it themselves! An app that I installed on my smartphone reports: another 247 days of addiction.
Nothing is as dangerous as stress and arguments. The hands are shaking, the head says: You can smoke too, it doesn't matter anyway. Is not it. And I have herbal cigarettes.
Heaven, a family celebration! An ashtray is placed on the terrace for the smokers among the guests. At a late hour, in good company, the little amygdala broadcasts on all channels: One doesn't do any harm ... rat poison! Come on, don't make a fuss of it? Crab stalk! Take a deep breath.
The strategies that Jochen Kaufmann teaches about smoking cessation are designed to stay strong in crisis situations. There are clear recommendations for action and, if necessary, special audio files. In the seminar it became clear: one cigarette and everything starts over.
The app says: 295 euros saved. 1122 cigarettes not smoked, 14.77 days of life recovered, purely statistical. In fact, there are many more. I have so much time now that I don't have to constantly take breaks to smoke. I only now understand that smoking has nothing to do with slowing down.
Saved 506 euros. 1923 cigarettes not smoked, gained more than 25 days of life. Even if I think about smoking every now and then, it's okay.
Now is the time not to get cocky. "Anyone who relapses has not listened to the hypnosis files for three months," suspects Kaufmann. That is why there is telephone coaching for a year and the opportunity to repeat the seminar.
3000 not smoked cigarettes. 3000! I watch others smoke in amazement and feel no urge to do it myself. I am a happy non-smoker and hopefully I will stay that way - who would have thought that.
Jochen Kaufmann also offers support in quitting smoking in the corona crisis - by phone, by means of audio files or as a seminar with strict hygienic requirements. Information is available on the Internet at www.rauchentwoehnung-nichtrauch.de or by phone at 07131 4059350.
